Come to Henry's Farm Tour and Potluck October 4!

IN YOUR SHARE THIS WEEK
--> EDAMAME - The fuzzy pods enclose sweet, buttery, nutritious soybeans. And they're so easy to prepare -- just put the whole pods into a pot of salted boiling water and cook for 4-5 minutes.  Then drain, sprinkle with more salt, and slightly squeeze the pod to pop the beans into your mouth -- a perfect appetizer or snack!

--> BEETS -- Red and/or Golden -- big and beefy!  The beets have been growing like crazy with all the rain we've been having. In fact, you may just get one beet the size of 3 or 4 regular beets. But don't let the size scare you -- these beets are young, tender, sweet, and lovely. Just cut them into smaller pieces and roast or boil to make a beet salad or other dish -- maybe even a classic borscht.

--> ACORN SQUASH - Whether you get the classic green, or the white, golden, or multi-colored Festival variety, all these acorn squashes are sweet and rich -- great on their own, or made into a soup or "pumpkin" dessert.

--> POTATOES -- mostly the rich and creamy Yukon Gold, but may have some other varieties mixed in

--> RADISHES - These are great in salads or on sandwiches, but I really love them sautéed in butter.

--> ARUGULA -- This spicy green is also great in salads and sandwiches, or in a soup or stir-fry.

--> CUCUMBERS and/or TOMATOES  -- depending on how many of each there are to harvest tomorrow.

And if you didn't get leeks or scallions last week, you'll get leeks this week.

NOTES . . .

1. Please sign up now for the Annual Henry's Farm Festivities on October 1. You are welcome to come any time after 2pm. Henry will start the first farm tour around 3:00, and take new groups on tours throughout the day. You can also take Henry's "Name that Vegetable" quiz and join in the music, singing, dancing, and other evening festivities around the bonfire. Directions are here.

2. B-N Pick-up Location and Time will change Oct. 4 -- Bloomington-Normal CSA members' pick-up moves indoors, to Vitesse Cycle Shop in Uptown Normal. We will also move 30 minutes back, from 6:30-7:30, since Vitesse is open until 6, and it takes us a half hour to set up. All the other pick-up locations and times will stay the same. When coming to Vitesse, please space yourselves out during the whole hour so as not to have a long line at 6:30. And please park across the street in the Town of Normal parking lot. You can also park in the Vitesse lot, but it tends to get crowded. Whatever you do, don't park in the liquor store lot just north of Vitesse -- they love to tow!
