Teresa's aronia juice is fresh pressed, and 100% juice -- no added sugar, or water, or anything.

Since the berries themselves contain very little water, this means the juice is quite strong. Some people like it that way.  Others prefer it diluted with water, selzer, white wine, apple juice, sparkling apple juice, or champagne.

Aronia, commonly called black chokeberry, is native to North America and was used for centuries by the Native Americans both medicinally and as food. It is in the apple family, and  aronia berries have a sharp tannic taste similar to a crabapple when eaten fresh or juiced.

Aronia is extremely high in antioxidants (almost 3 times higher than blueberries!), particularly the anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, dark pigments that give the berries their blue-black color. These same pigments protect human tissue by scavenging free radicals in our bodies that can lead to inflammation, mutations, and/or cancer, as well as other diseases associated with aging, such as diabetes and heart disease.

Teresa freezes the aronia berries to help break down their cell walls, and facilitate the juicing process.  Then she runs them through a high pressure juice press, and bottles the juice.  Because she does not boil or pasteurize it, you must keep it in the refrigerator, where it will keep well for about two weeks.

If you want to keep it longer, use at least 1/4 of the juice in the bottle before freezing it, to accommodate expansion. Some people freeze the juice in smaller containers, or in ice cube trays, and then use later as needed.
