Paperwhites for the Holiday Season from Kira's Flowers!

Paperwhites are beautiful and fragrant members
of the narcissus family, which includes daffodils.
Their white blooms (some with yellow centers)
resemble daffodils but are much smaller,
with several blooms on each stem.
It seems like poinsettias are the most marketed flower for the holidays, but paperwhites are (to my eye) even prettier, and definitely (to my nose) much sweeter, filling your home with the scent of spring even in the dead of winter.

And if you’re looking for a live, blooming gift for someone who has never grown plants, paperwhites are an excellent choice, needing only a sunny window and a little water now and then. A pot of paperwhites on your counter or desk is sure to brighten your home or office, and will also make a wonderful centerpiece for your holiday dining table.

I will plant your order in a pretty birchbark container, with 5-6 bulbs in each, depending on the size of the bulbs. (The larger the bulb the more blooms it will have.) I will plant them so that they will be blooming between Christmas and New Years.  Most blooms should last about two weeks.

Each container of 5-6 bulbs is only $21 (about 1/3 of what I saw for similar products online) and you don't need to pay until you pick up your flowers in mid-December.  If you return the birchbark container (you may do so at the first CSA pick-up in the Spring, or to my house in Eureka) you will get $5 cash back. Re-using these containers is just one way that I try to promote sustainable practices on my farm.

Paperwhites almost ready to bloom.
You can pick-up your flowers, which will be on the verge of blooming, at either of these locations:
  1. 302 W. Sunny Lane in Eureka on Friday December 18
  2. U.S. Cellular Coliseum Market in Bloomington on Saturday December 19
Please pay by cash or check when you pick up your paper whites.
