Japanese Red Sweet Potatoes |
This will be a great week for mesclun and kale. If you haven't tried the soft-leaved Russian kale, check it out this week.
We also will be digging a lot more sweet potatoes, including both the moist, orange "yam" varieties (not really yams, but that's another story), and the dryer, ivory fleshed Japanese and Korean sweet potatoes, as well as the purple Okinawan.
And speaking of purple, we cut up some of the gorgeous purple Tae bok radishes last week, and sold out of those lickety-split, so are bringing more of those, and other radishes, including Rosehearts, Daikon, and Red Globe and French Breakfast.

And check out the beautiful T-shirts by farmhand and artist Andrew Zeal. There are 3 woodcut images of the farm to choose from -- modeled here by soon-to-be super-farmhand-models Gabe, Bri, and Andy.

PEARS...Try Them Poached!
Our Keiffer pears, being a firm pear, are perfect for poaching. I recently ran across David Lebovitz's
"How To Poach Pears"online. It has basic instructions for poaching pears as well as additions such as vanilla bean, cinnamon, or ginger, and has serving suggestions too. It inspired me to try some new ways to eat pears. Check it out, and also the great recipe for honey-poached pears with marscapone in the sidebar.

Johnny Appleseed Apples |
We will have a few more apple and pear "seconds" this week for your baking and saucing needs. These apples and pears are half off our usual price and are a great buy!
KIWI BERRIES
The kiwis are still turning out some berries, so we will be bringing up a few boxes.
